GREATER PHALABORWA - TRADE & TOURISM COUNCIL
Over the years there has been a decline in mining activities in Phalaborwa. In January 2004 a Trade and Tourism Council was elected and has representation from all sectors in the community (accommodation associations, hotels, lodges, tour operators, trade, industry, conservation, government departments, municipality, local companies, tribal authorities, etc.).

THE PURPOSE of the Trade & Tourism Council
“To facilitate tourism development, to change Greater Phalaborwa from a mining town to a major tourist destination and to develop the town and surrounding communities into a safe, prosperous and popular tourist destination.”

The Council is a facilitating agency and has played a major role in organising the local community to prepare for World Tourism week. The Council has been involved in drawing up a business plan for tourism, the training of community tour guides, facilitating tourism competitions in schools and has a number of other exciting ideas to promote tourism to the area.

Phalaborwa is in the fortunate position that it is the major entry point to the central and northern sections of the Kruger National Park and also the Greater Limpopo Trans Frontier Park. With the opening of the road to the Trans Frontier Park, Phalaborwa will be a sought after destination for tourists wanting to visit the Trans Frontier Park and central and northern Mozambique.

As a result of this, Phalaborwa has unique investments opportunities and will grow into a thriving tourist destination. We hope that all visitors to the town and surrounding areas enjoy their stay during Tourism week and you will visit us on an annual basis.

PHALABORWA CHAMBER OF BUSINESS
As representative of organised business in Phalaborwa, it is indeed a privilege for the Phalaborwa Chamber of Business to be involved in co- hosting the South African leg of World Tourism Day Celebrations with Hoedspruit.

With the decline in mining activities, the Chamber has always maintained that Phalaborwa has a promising future through tourism, which would ensure sustainable growth above the national growth average.

The Phalaborwa Chamber of Business therefor encourages its members and the business community at large to commit and involve themselves in efforts to promote our region as a real tourist destination.

Our efforts must thus be directed to " think tourism, act tourism and live tourism" in terms of what we can offer , the services we render and the way we conduct business in town.

Great initiatives are currently occurring in the fields of accommodation, conservation and general trade and tourism by both private persons and organised business which all enhance Phalaborwa's role in the national and international tourism arena.

On behalf of the Phalaborwa Chamber of Business we extend a hearty and warm welcome to every guest and invite them to take part in what Phalaborwa has to offer.

Pieter Cornelius
PRESIDENT : PHALABORWA CHAMBER OF BUSINESS
