The Mosate Hotel School is situated in Phalaborwa in a spacious garden surrounded by a koppie at the braai area.
These premises include a fully equipped industrial kitchen, a 40-seater restaurant,
3 bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms and a separate dining room and a bar. This full-time course incorporates three intensive modules of professional cookery, food and beverage and accommodation services.
The qualification is THETA recognised NQF Level 4 and the duration of training is for 18 months and offers both practical and theoretical training.
The Mosate Hotel School is part of the Mopani South East FET College (Phalaborwa Campus).
After extensive research during 2000, Phalaborwa College identified the gap in the market in terms of training in the field of hospitality and catering.
The intentions of management were to expand the College’s range of services into programmes supporting tourism. These programmes include hospitality and catering,
wildlife management and eco-tourism.
Mošate Hotel School is the only hotel school in the Limpopo Province and Mpumalanga and the only one to cater specifically for the needs of the Lodges!
Since its inception, a bare 18 months ago, the School and its students have proved that the trust placed in them was not in vain, for they have excelled in many ways.
They took part in the Bush Banquet and were placed second in the Gold Table class and third in the Silver Table class. They were amongst the first ten out of 28 Lodges in the category of food and wine. Their competition came from Lodges such as Kapama, Royal Malewane, Singita, Makalali, Sabi Sands and Londolozi.
Functions are regularly organized and catered for by Mošate Hotel School and recently they held a high tea for 200 ladies. Weddings and smaller, intimate functions regularly form part of their duties.

THE PREMISES
The Mosate Hotel School is situated in Phalaborwa, in a spacious garden surrounded by a koppie at the braai area.
The premises will include a fully equipped industrial kitchen, a 40 seater restaurant, a separate dining room for smokers, a bar and accommodation for guests.
ENROLMENT
The minimum age for enrolment is 17 years. The minimum academic requirement is a Standard Grade matric or equivalent qualification. Applicants will also be required to complete an application form and a questionnaire. Acceptance of a student is at the discretion of the Hotel School.
Successful applicants will be required to enter into a contract with Phalaborwa College. |

DURATION
The full time course incorporates three intensive modules comprising of Professional Cookery, Food and Beverage Services and Accommodation Services, and is called Certificate in Lodge Operations.
This Certificate is complies with the requirements for the THETA certificates of Professional Cookery (FPCO4) NQF level 4; Food and Beverage Services (FSCO4) NQF level 4 and selected unit standards in Accommodation Services (ASCO2) level 4.
The duration of this full time course is eighteen months, and offers both theoretical and practical training. |

PRACTICAL TRAINING
The College runs regular short courses and team building exercises under the direction of various chefs. Students are scheduled to assist at these events to gain further practical experience and exposure to the styles of different chefs.
Other practical training will be conducted at lodges, hotels and restaurants in the Phalaborwa vicinity
FEES
The total price of the first 18 months' training is R28 900 per learner.
The deposit of R3 500 must accompany the application.

WINE COURSE
The Hotel School offers the Cape Wine Academy Certificate course, which the students are required to complete.
Emphasis is placed on the marriage of food and wine, with particular emphasis on wines of South Africa.
The Hotel School offers an optional wine tour to Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl regions to expose the students to wine making.
The tour is dependent on a minimum of 20 participants. It is optional and will be for the account of the student. |
